And the Question is...

"My question is basically what if I have ideas now for games that would be instant hits. Is there any way to submit my ideas or concepts without being either ripped off or thought of as a loony?"

"Experience is the key to getting a publishers attention.

"My suggestion to every aspiring game designer out there is 'Get a job in the games business'. Whether it's programming, art, product management, or quality assurance, get your foot in the door and start your career in game development. Once you have a proven track record in leadership positions on successful products, you'll be in a better position to sell your ability to develop the next 'instant hit'.

"I digress a little here, but what it comes down to is this: publishers hire people whether they're an independent developer like Valve or an internal development group with a new game idea. What's more important than the 'great game idea' is a developer with the proven experience, ability and vision to create a great game.

"Once you've developed your resume, publishers will sit up and take notice. Then you can worry about the legal stuff, protecting your ideas, non-disclosure agreements, etc.

"If you're already at that point, you'll need experienced legal counsel. Ask friends and associates who have experience in the business, and look for legal counsel with experience in software licensing and intellectual property. They can guide you through the legalities of protecting your ideas and negotiating a development agreement."
